Mario Palmiotto
Independent Green
Print Managing Editor Jeremy Beales
Mario Palmiotto is the state treasurer of the Independent Green party and is running on a platform of increased rail construction and more restrictive growth policies. He argues that he represents change as his opponent, Senate Minority Leader Dick Saslaw (D), has represented the district in the Senate since 1980.
Palmiotto believes that traffic congestion is the most pressing issue facing his district. He, along with the rest of the Independent Green party, argues that the only viable solution to Northern Virginia’s transportation problem is increased rail construction. In addition to reducing the number of cars on Virginia’s roads, rail is the most environmentally friendly option for reducing traffic congestion.
Palmiotto has not run a particularly energetic campaign and according to the latest filings with the State Board of Election he has failed to raise any money for his campaign.
