Patsy Ticer
Incumbent Democrat
Print Managing Editor Jeremy Beales
Patsy Ticer is currently running for her fourth term in her Arlington and Fairfax-based district, having first been elected in 1995. Her top legislative priority is transportation. Ticer believes that because the problem with Northern Virginia’s transportation “will not subside in the next ten or twenty years,” it is the duty of the state legislature to “increase and improve alternative forms of transportation," according to her website.
Ticer’s other top legislative priorities are education, the environment and public safety. She believes in increasing the amount of money Virginia spends on early education, on rewarding teachers for obtaining further degrees, increasing the amount of land preserved in Virginia and easing the reentry of convicted criminals into society. Prior to joining the State Senate, Ticer was the first woman to be Mayor of Alexandria.
