Since 1995, Mary Margaret Whipple (D) has represented voters of the 31st District, which consists of East Fairfax, Falls Church and much of Arlington County. She previously served on the Arlington County Board and began to develop an interest in transportation while serving on the board.

Since 1995, she has served on the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority and on the Transportation Committee of the Virginia Association of Counties.

On Senator Whipple’s website there is a video of her talking about several different issues, notably, transportation. For transportation, Senator Whipple lists several ideas to clear congestion: “We must reduce congestion with targeted improvements by increasing the use of mass transit, and promoting walking and biking.”
